Alt’s Gymnastics
Doug Alt
Alt’s Gymnastics, Inc. operated gymnastics schools and camps during the years 1971-1981, primarily in New Jersey.
The first Alt’s Gymnastics School opened on June 19, 1971 in a barn at a chicken farm on Rt. 34 in Colts Neck, NJ.
The principal owners were Doug Alt and Ute Alt, both of whom had formerly been gymnasts at Springfield College in Massachusetts.
At the peak of its operation (the school year of 1980-1981) there were nearly 3,000 students enrolled in gymnastics classes and competition training programs at eight locations.
The business motto, coined by Ute, was “For Somersaults, It’s Alt’s”.
Approximately 40 full-time and 40 part-time staff members handled the teaching and administrative tasks.
Financial difficulties forced the filing of bankruptcy in 1981, with all operations terminating in June of 1981.
